Introversion of the
Senses
"Pratyahara"
When the sense faculties operate independently
from the sense organs in meditation it is called pratyahara.
Pratyahara is also known as the withdrawal of the senses from
the objects of sense.
In meditation, first the environment begins to recede, and
then the ability to sense separates from the organs of sense.
When the senses are no longer dependent on the sense organs
in order to perceive, pratyahara is achieved and you can see,
hear, smell, taste, and feel touch without the sense organs.
Pratyahara is the basis of the magical quality of meditation.
Once pratyahara begins, it is possible to achieve a true meditative
state.
